Give your child best-in-class habits and life skills to succeed in school and beyond!

It’s 15 degrees Celsius as I write this (downright tropical if you ask me), the sun is shining, and spring is in the air.

That means summer is just around the corner. With school out of the way, this is a great time for students to enjoy the warm weather, prepare for the year ahead, and make great memories with friends.

Also, summer jobs.

It may seem like I’m jumping ahead. If someone told 16-year-old me that people start securing summer jobs as early as winter/spring (or even earlier), I’d say they were nuts. But that’s exactly what’s happening, especially with more competitive positions that have a longer application and interview process. (Back in February, one of our students applied for a summer camp counselor position and is waiting to hear back in May.)

Summer jobs and opportunities help students develop skills they can use for the rest of their lives, including:

  1. Making money and managing money
  2. Career-track skills, such as research, coding, and using spreadsheets
  3. Exposure to real world life skills, including effective communication, working in a team, and time management

If the past few years have taught me anything, it’s that the earlier we learn these skills, the greater our chances of setting ourselves up for success in the years ahead. Many positions are also offered in-person and online, making it more flexible than previous years.

Without further ado, here are 8 great summer jobs and opportunities for students in 2022:

  1. Camp counselor
  2. Office intern
  3. Barista
  4. Lifeguard
  5. Dog walker
  6. Summer student programs
  7. Canvasser
  8. Start a side hustle!
From slime to hand cream to baked goods, there are plenty of opportunities for students to start earning some money on the side and save up for tuition.

So, let’s say you’ve found the summer job of your dreams. Now what?

To get the job you’re looking for, check out your local job search portals online. Compare and contrast job listings to see what suits you. Next, get your resume and cover letter ready to go. After that, brush up on your interview skills.

Last but not least, have fun and enjoy the sun!
