Let’s hear it for Summer 2022! It’s almost August, which means a few more weeks of camps, jobs, summer school, and hopefully enjoying some family time.
It also means more downtime to read and expand our minds with new ideas and fresh perspectives.

- The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
A patriarchal and white supremacist society governed by men categorizes women into different social roles. The novel tells the story of a handmaid and the sacrifices and risks she must take to end her oppression.
- Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Raskolnikov is a former student with the belief that some are superior to others and their rights go beyond the law. This leads him to commit the brutal and careless murder of a pawnbroker.
- The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Nick Carraway tells the story of his former neighbour, a wealthy man in New York City named Jay Gatsby, who pursues his childhood love, Daisy Buchanan.
- Feed by Matthew Tobin Anderson
In a dystopian future, Americans have an implanted feed that connects them to the feednet, a vast computer network, straight through their brains. After a mad hacker causes all of their feeds to malfunction, Titus and his friends are all hospitalized and they spend days lying about without anything in their minds.

- One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia
A postcolonial novel about seven generations of the Buendia family and how they cope with the aftermath of a devastating hurricane.
- Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
An exploration of society’s gender roles through the protagonist Janie Crawford, an African American woman living in Florida. Janie, captivated by the idea of true love, steps into her own identity.
